In the Nordic Combined, three Germans made it to the podium – Herola had a good XC part

On Saturday, the weather conditions favored Ruka, and the ski jumping segment of the Nordic Combined event took place under sunny skies. The longest jump was made by the German Johannes Rydzek, who soared 142 meters. With this jump, he secured the first position going into the ski race, with a 0.45-second lead.
Second place went to Thomas Rettenegger with a jump of 132.5 meters, and third place to Japan’s Ryota Yamamoto with a jump of 135.5 meters. Jarl Magnus Riiber will start the ski portion in fourth place.
Among the Finns, Eemeli Kurttila had the best jump at 131.5 meters, starting in 21st position. Wille Karhumaa’s jump of 120 meters also earned him a strong placement, and he will begin the ski race in 29th.
Rydzek kept the lead on the tracks

In the Gundersen 10 km skiing event of the Nordic Combined, Johannes Rydzek started in first place and held onto the lead until the finish.

“I had to focus completely from the start because strong skiers were coming from behind”, Rydzek commented. In addition to Rydzek, German Julian Schmid joined him on the podium, improving from his yesterday’s third-place finish to second. Vinzenz Geiger’s skiing was progressive, and he finished third.

Jarl Magnus Riiber had a good start and climbed to second place at best, but ultimately dropped back to fourth. Ilkka Herola’s skiing went well, and he climbed from 32nd to 18th place. Herola commented that the weekend had been balanced so far, with both jumps and skiing feeling good. Wille Karhumaa also moved up a few places, finishing 25th. As for the Finnish athletes, Arttu Mäkiaho, Jesse Pääkkönen and Otto Niittykoski did not start the skiing portion at all.
