Nordic Combined Ski Jumping Part Cancelled – Provisional Competition Round Results to Stand
The wind did not allow the ski jumping of the Nordic Combined to be completed. The Provisional Competition Round results will remain in effect, much to the disappointment of many athletes.
Friday’s winner, Austria’s Johannes Lamparter, will start the Cross-Country course first, followed by Austria’s Thomas Rettenegger and Germany’s Julian Schmid. If yesterday’s signs are anything to go by, the race is expected to turn into a duel between Lamparter and Schmid. Rettenegger lacked speed in Friday’s compact competition, and it remains to be seen what kind of form he shows in the Gundersen start.
Eemeli Kurttila is in a highly favourable position after placing eighth in the provisional competition.
Ilkka Herola finished 12th in the provisional results. He has some catching up to do, and he surely would have hoped for Saturday’s jumping round to improve his starting position for the skiing portion.
The conditions also add an intriguing variable to the cross-country race. As Herola himself noted yesterday, there is never a guaranteed equipment setup for these kinds of mild, variable conditions. The first kilometres of the race will likely reveal whose skis are running well—and whose are not.
