The Provisional Competition Round results will remain in effect, much to the disappointment of many athletes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friday\u2019s winner, Austria\u2019s <\/span><b>Johannes Lamparter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will start the Cross-Country course first, followed by Austria\u2019s <\/span><b>Thomas Rettenegger<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Germany\u2019s J<\/span><b>ulian Schmid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If yesterday\u2019s signs are anything to go by, the race is expected to turn into a duel between <\/span><b>Lamparter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Schmid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Rettenegger<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lacked speed in Friday\u2019s compact competition, and it remains to be seen what kind of form he shows in the Gundersen start.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Eemeli Kurttila<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is in a highly favourable position after placing eighth in the provisional competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Ilkka Herola<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> finished 12th in the provisional results. He has some catching up to do, and he surely would have hoped for Saturday\u2019s jumping round to improve his starting position for the skiing portion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The conditions also add an intriguing variable to the cross-country race. As <\/span><b>Herola<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> himself noted yesterday, there is never a guaranteed equipment setup for these kinds of mild, variable conditions.
